Caring for your heart can be as easy as joining us at Craft Night on Wednesdays and monitoring your blood pressure.
Craft Night is hosted every Wednesday at the Tribe Office from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
We offer this simple space for people to gather, chat, and create for the sake of creating. You may bring your own craft supplies, or look through what's available at our office.
This program is year-round and works in tandem with our blood pressure self-monitoring program Check. Change. Control.® (CCC). Our goal through CCC is to build heart health awareness by giving people access to check and monitor blood pressure, as well as provide informational materials that push us towards heart-healthy lifestyles.
APIA collaborates with the Tribe to host Craft Night themed to honor and remember our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program
What is Check, Change, Control?
Check. Change. Control.® (CCC) is a four-month long blood pressure management program that encourages you to check your blood pressure. The program shares helpful information about ways you can change your lifestyle and work with your healthcare provider to control your blood pressure.
The simple process of checking and recording your blood pressure at least twice a month over a period of four months has been shown to lower blood pressure in many people with high blood pressure.
You get to decide how much time you commit to the program. It can take as little as a few minutes a week to simply check and record your blood pressure. You can spend more time by reading educational materials and participants in heart-healthy activities.
As a participant you will:
Receive a blood pressure monitor and cuff for borrowing.
Check your blood pressure at least two times per month for 4 consecutive months.
Have access to short readings on this website that will build your heart health awareness.
Participate in bi-monthly mentor check-ins via phone or email
Choose if you would like to share your blood pressure readings to your provider.
